I wish there were a mirror command in Assemblies. I've worked on a number of jobs already, where it would have come in handy.

Create/Edit Complex Line Styles View Full Details
Submitter: Gary
Released:   Thu, 12-Jun-2008

I want to be able to create and edit complex line styles; as I could in old AutoCAD LT 98. This is just one of the functionalities that AutoCAD LT 98 offers , that SolidWorks 2007 does not.

Sketch Driven Assembly Component Patterns View Full Details

I can drive features in parts with a sketch and patterns derived in assemblies from features. Why not a sketch in an assembly?

Top down modeling how it used to be View Full Details
Submitter: knoxer
Released:   Wed, 23-Apr-2008

I want an option to revert top down modeling to the way it was before SolidWorks 2008.

This is how it ‘works’ now:
In an assembly, insert new component.
Create the part.
Save
Pick “save externally”
Click the part and specify the path and file name.
Finish saving

This is how it used to work:
In an assembly, insert new component.
Name and save the part. (it remembers where you saved the last part, and allows you to click another file name that is similar to what you want so you don’t have to type the whole thing)
Create the part.

My proposed compromise (since they probably won't go back to the old way):
Let me skip the question of 'save internally or externally', and have it always save externally (it already lets you always save internally, but not externally...), and give an option to have all new parts default to the same path as the assembly, so you don't have to pick the path every time.

Part details linked to B.O.M. item number View Full Details
Submitter: knoxer
Released:   Wed, 23-Apr-2008

I would like to be able to place part detail views on a drawing where there is a Bill of Material linked to an assembly, and have the proper item number show up when I add a balloon to the part detail.

For example: There is a drawing containing a view of an assembly and a B.O.M.. One of the parts in that assembly needs a separate detail, so you insert a view of just that part, but when you add a balloon it says part (1) no matter what item it actually is.

Easier Equations View Full Details
Submitter: cwsink
Released:   Fri, 29-Feb-2008

It would be much simpler to do equations if you could enter them directly into the value box. This should be available in the dimension value entry box, values in the Property manager, everywhere you can enter a value.

Additional idea: There could be a "Solve" button that would evaluate the equation leaving just a value...run with it....

...SolidWorks steals the Show View Full Details
Submitter: cwsink
Released:   Thu, 24-Jan-2008

Many times if I'm waiting on SW to complete a long task, I will switch to another program and work in that until SW is done. But SW usually continually jumps in front of the other program, becoming the active window on its own. This is Extremely annoying! I don't want to have to fight for control of my computer from one of the softwares.

Fix OR Remove MateXpert View Full Details
Submitter: cwsink
Released:   Wed, 23-Jan-2008

SolidWorks' favorite line (which I think is a good one) is that they want to "Get the software out of the way so you can design". Well, the MateXpert did just the opposite! Please either fix the MateXpert, remove it or allow me to completely disable it.

This functionality has not only hindered my work, but sometimes it has completely destroyed an assembly forcing me to reassemble from scratch. Many times it will flip 5-15 mate alignments so rather than flip a component that is completely free to rotate. .

This request is concerning SW 2007. I have not heard that anything changed for 2008, but I have not used it extensively either.
